If you’re like many Americans, you’re tied down to a desk all day. This seemingly harmless act can actually lead to dangerous health consequences. Aside from the not-so-dangerous office bod, risks for developing Type 2 diabetes can increase to as high as 90 percent, according to the study published by the Annals of Internal Medicine. Prolonged sitting, classified as eight or more hours a day, can also increase the risk of cancer and death due to cardiovascular issues.
But not to fret, the solution to counteracting this dreaded reality could be to simply get up more often. According to a separate study by University of Utah School of Medicine, people who got up from their seats and walked for two minutes every hour were 33 percent more likely to outlive those that don’t.
So, take a walk at work and increase exercise overall; even a little will do. Find more ways to be active this weekend by parking further away from the Isotopes Park, walking from your house to the nearest brewery, and dancing the night away after being inspired by a local company’s dance production.
Join us at Isotopes Park for ATM night at the ball park and enjoy some late-summer baseball with us. Just for attending, we’d like to extend our gratitude to fans by giving away ATM & Isotopes-branded sunglasses to the first 3,000 people who attend tonight’s game. The gates will open at 6:00 p.m. and the game will start at 7:05 p.m. One of our very own will even throw out the ceremonial first pitch of the game! He’s been practicing.
As if the night couldn’t get any better, BirdZerk will be in attendance! He will accompany Orbit for entertaining shenanigans, pranks, and fun. Just don’t get too crazy out there BirdZerk—we’d still like to catch the baseball game.
After a hard day’s work, there’s nothing like winding down with a cold one—on a Friday night. Tonight, you can sample suds from Albuquerque’s newest brewery, Boese Brothers Brewery. After renovations and beer-making, their dream has finally come to fruition. The interior’s charm has a “speakeasy” feel, with Edison bulbs and a handmade bar top. And the beer? Your pint will be ice cold on a day where we could break record heat temperatures.
Their grand opening will take place tonight at 601 Gold Ave SW downtown. Beers include the Old Shonie Scottish Ale and Patriot Porter among others. These in particular with have nitrogen taps, giving a more frothy consistency. In partnership with Gold Street Caffé, the brewery will also feature food delivery from 4-10 p.m.
For those who need a Broadway fix, Dance Exposé presents their annual production this weekend. This year “White Gold” will grace the stage—an exciting performance, featuring something for everyone from dancing, to singing, to acting. The production will quench any trace of show thirst, as audiences have likened it to “Broadway meets Vegas.” Stunning lighting, music, video and talented performers will be sure to delight.
The performance runs all weekend at the African American Performing Arts Center at Expo New Mexico. Friday and Saturday evening’s performances begin at 7:30 p.m. with a Sunday matinee at 2:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online.
