The Easter Bunny is Coming…

Posted by on Mar 27, 2015 in Uncategorized

Hey you: Quit fighting the urge to be an adult. You know you want to start poking around the lawn in search of colorful dyed eggs.

But don’t worry—you’re not alone. A study by mystery shopping firm Retail Active found that the average 10-14 year-old will consume 13 eggs in conjunction with the holiday.

But that’s not all—that same kiddo will also consume more than five pounds of chocolate, according to Retail Active. If you’re dieting, brace yourself—that equals more than 12,000 calories and 650 grams of fat.

Unfortunately, you might not have the same metabolism you had before puberty. In that case, get out and free up some preemptive calories for an Easter binge by attending some of our favorite local events:

An “Egg-cellent” Adventure

Easter HuntWe don’t want to “egg” you on, but we think you should get the “shell” over to the Free Easter Egg Hunt at Vista Grande Community Center on Sunday.

The hunt—hosted by Bernalillo County Parks and Recreation—begins at 2 p.m., and will separate children 12 and below into four different age groups. What’s more, it’s rumored that the Easter Bunny himself will be hanging out nearby for photo opportunities.

Even “hard-boiled” adults can see the appeal in that—or maybe we just have a “soft” spot for that time of year. Tired of egg puns yet?

Feeling Fashionable?

New Mexico Fashion Week is in full swing at the Albuquerque Convention Center, but this weekend iscatwalk 8 when the event—held to highlight and boost the statewide fashion industry—really kicks into high gear.

Guests can peruse fashion expos, design conferences, and watch models strut their stuff while decked out in haute couture from local and popular designers throughout Saturday and Sunday. Guests will see the best of Noir Assassin, ODELL by kayleigh Dawn, 505 Clothing, Montecristi Custom Hat Works, and may even have the chance to update their own garment repertoire.

The lauded garment gathering is hosted by Albuquerque Apparel Center, which has supported the apparel industry in one capacity or another for 23 years, with the ultimate goal of establishing a heavy-hitting garment industry in New Mexico.

Besides, a little bit of fashion enlightenment never hurts. Some of us are still waiting for parachute pants to come back into style.

The ‘Stache Bash

Mustache macro shot.Certain expectations come with having a beard or mustache. One of them is that you should be just a few shades more rugged and cool than that guy nearby with the bald face.

And you need to be able to party. But don’t worry, if you’re “follicly” challenged, just stick on your best fake beard and/or mustache for the 9th Annual Moustachio Bashio at the El Rey Theater. For $10, you can show off your “soup strainer” to other ‘stache aficionados, listen to live music by Turbo Suit and The Magic Beans and more, win prizes, and even participate in a “best of show” mustache competition.

Oh, and there will be plenty of dancing underneath all the mustache mayhem. The bash will also include live painting from Kevin Vigil Paints while the party rages from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.—Paul Bunyan would be proud.

What are your weekend plans?
