Ladies, Have a Pint

Women are in the sweet spot as far as beer is concerned. According to the Natural Medicine Journal, moderate drinking (one or two beers a day) was associated with increased bone density in both men and women. However, once the number of pints increased, women who drank more than two beers a day had significantly greater bone density (5 percent–8.3 percent), than men who drank the same amount.

This is due to the high silicon content in beer. According to the Institute for Better Bone Health, silicon impacts all aspects of bone care as well as promoting healthier skin, hair, and nails. The study also found that ethanol has a direct effect of preventing bone from breaking down. As an added bonus, the chemicals in beer can also act as phytoestrogens, helping menopausal women with hot flash–like symptoms. Lastly, chemicals found in hops may lower risk of breast cancer.

No more excuses ladies. Hop into your local brewery to try one of the many great brews.
