Hugs and Health

The reddest and pinkest month of the year is only a few days away and things are about to get lovey dovey.

So in honor of February, give some one a hug. After all, it may be good for your health. The Cleveland Clinic reported that being embraced in one’s arms might strengthen the immune system, drop blood pressure, and decrease the release of the stress hormone known as cortisol.

Hug it out, get out, and check out some of these ABQ happenings.

There’s nothing like good old-fashioned tacos and quinceañeras in the Land of Enchantment, especially when there’s locally brewed beer around.

Celebrating Round 15 of the live art competition, Art Fight, Tractor Brewing Co. is having a quinceañera. Tonight, from 7 to 10 p.m., swing by for music, live art, beer, and a taco eating contest.

If you’re up for it, take a quick road trip south  for the 2016 World’s Largest Matanza in Belen.

The self-proclaimed “world’s largest” matanza will be held at Eagle Park ( 305 Eagle Lane, Belen), where gates will open at 7 a.m. Al Hurricane Jr. and Suevecito will provide the entertainment as guests chow down.

Admission is $15 for adults and kids 13 and over. Kids 12 and under get in free.

Actually, we mean “Souper” Bowl.

Tomorrow, Jan. 30, Roadrunner Food Bank will host Souper Bowl 2016. Swing by between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to sample soups and desserts from over 40 restaurants and chefs. Vote on your favorite dishes, listen to live music, shop for cookbooks, and enter to win prizes.

Admission is $40 for adults and $10 for children.
