Favorite Things Friday (Special Fourth of July Edition!)

Posted by on Jul 3, 2013 in Uncategorized

Come tomorrow, colorful bursts will be lighting up the night skies. Hamburger and hot dog smells will be wafting through the air. It’s the Fourth of July!

If you’re lucky enough to get ahold of tickets for tomorrow’s Isotopes’ game, you’ll be in for a treat. An amazing after game firework show is planned. And if you weren’t able to get tickets, but live in the University of New Mexico area, climb up to your rooftop or step out of your front door to watch the brilliant display of exploding colors.

If you didn’t grab ‘Topes tickets in time, you can head over to Balloon Fiesta Park for the admission-free Freedom Fourth celebration. The event starts at 3 p.m. and ends at 11 p.m. Local musicians will be featured throughout the day, with a closing set from national headliner John Michael Montgomery. There will be food vendors, a beer garden, a balloon glow, and a car show. The night will be topped off with a firework show.

You’re in Rio Rancho? You love pork? Perfect! The 10th Annual Pork & Brew BBQ State Championship will be taking place July 5-7 at the Santa Ana Star Center. There will be live entertainment, arts and crafts, and of course, no shortage of mouthwatering barbecue. The competition is fully sanctioned by the Kansas City BBQ Society and the winners will qualify for nationals in Kansas City.

Make sure to grab tickets for the whole family. Pork & Brew is becoming one of New Mexico’s biggest events with close to 20,000 in attendance each year. General admission is $5. Tickets for those over 65 and children 4-12 are $3 while children under 3 get in free.

Want a shot at breaking a world record?

July 6 is International Kissing Day and LUSH Fresh Handmade Cosmetics is partnering with Guinness World Records in an attempt to break the record for most “kiss prints” collected in 12 consecutive hours.

LUSH ABQ Uptown wants to borrow our lips from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to carry out this attempt at breaking the world record of 22,174 lipstick prints in 12 hours. And the kissing is for a cause. LUSH wants to educate its customers about choosing safe cosmetics never tested on animals. A year ago LUSH partnered with Humane Society International and Humane Society of the U.S., collecting thousands of signatures supporting a ban on animal testing in North America.

And don’t forget that Sunday, July 7 is ATM Night at the Isotopes! We’ll be handing out special, limited-edition sunglasses to the first 1,500 people—we can’t wait to see you there!

So much to do this weekend. I better hop off this blog and get out there! Happy Fourth of July!
