Prepare yourselves, Albuquerqueans, because things are about to heat up this weekend. Seriously!
Thermometers will boil. Bears will burrow. Roadrunners will scurry under the cool shade. But instead of avoiding the heat, we’ve embraced it and put it between our pages in this month’s Hot Singles issue, where we featured the most outstanding (and eligible) men and women in the Duke City. So naturally, we have to throw a party to celebrate them, right?
10th Annual Hot Singles Party
At 7 p.m. tonight, we’ll pay homage to their hotness at our 10th Annual Hot Singles Party at Hotel Albuquerque, and you’re invited (of course!). Even if you aren’t single, you’re free to mingle with Albuquerque’s most available bachelors and bachelorettes. If you don’t meet that special someone, you’ll still fall in love with all the music, dancing, food, and complimentary vodka tastings you can handle.
Or, grab a relaxing hand massage and get your makeup touched up like a movie star with makeup applications, courtesy of the stylists at Mark Pardo Salon and Spa. Tickets are $30 at the door, or $50 with a VIP after-party at Casa Esencia, one of Hotel Albuquerque’s exclusive lounges.
And the best part? Profits go toward the For the Kids Fund via the Active 20-30 Club of Albuquerque, a group of active 40-and-unders (Mayor Richard Berry was a founding member) who plan to buy much-needed back-to-school supplies for underpriveledged children.
Attendees will also get the chance to bid on one of 12 Hot Singles that will be auctioned off for charity. If you win, we’ll send you out on a date with one of our sexy singles—on the house. Don’t miss your chance to mingle, because odds are our singles won’t stay that way for long…
Downtown Summerfest 2013
Complete your summer tan with a trip to Downtown Summerfest 2013, where the sweet sounds of four renowned bands will echo through downtown Albuquerque, starting at 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 3.
The festival will be headlined by Los Angeles-based Latin American band, Ozomatli, a spicy six-member ensemble with a reputation for remixing salsa music, hip-hop, cumbia, dancehall, funk, samba, comparsa, merengue, Jamaican ragga and Indian raga cultural stylings into their music and performances. There will also be performances by Brown Sugar, The Blue Ventures, and Sabor.
The fest–which is sponsored by the City of Albuquerque– will also host free activities for the kids and local artisans. And what would a street festival be without food and drinks?
Rest assured, Broken Bottle Brewery, Bosque Brewing Company, La Cumbre Brewing, Il Vicino Brewery, and Santa Fe Spirits Distillery will be on tap to provide thirsty concertgoers with some quenching quaffables.
2013 Figure National Championships
Make your way to the USA Roller Sports 2013 Figure National Championships to catch ice-worthy figure skaters go head to head–on roller skates instead.
The 2013 competition began at the Albuquerque Convention Center in late July and will wrap up on Saturday with the conclusion of the championships. You’ll see men and women compete for gold medals in dance, freeskating, and solo competitions (and bragging rights, above all!).
In fact, it’s approachability and appeal have made roller figure skating the most popular competitive roller skating sport in America, whether it’s in solo skating, dance skating, figure skating, precision, or show skating. You may just find a new hobby (and we hear the spandex and sequins are only optional).
What are you up to this weekend, Albuquerque?
