OK, put down the Playstation control. Quit spending your weekend gazing into the computer screen, of course, after you’re finished reading this. I know, it’s raining outside, but that’s what umbrellas are for.
You’re not sure what’s happening this weekend? We do!
If you still have time tonight, head over to Inspire Salon (423 Fourth St. SW). “Bald & Beautiful” is happening from 7:30 until 8:30 p.m. For every head shaved, sponsors such as El Pinto, Integrity Automotive, Bitco, Coldwell Banker, and more, will donate money to New Mexico Children’s Cancer Fund.
What a wonderful reason to buzz your hair—help better these children’s lives, one lock at a time.
Ever feel like you’re losing your grip on your love life? Well, apparently this group does. At least, the characters they play do.
Hop in your car and zoom to the Jewish Community Center (5520 Wyoming Blvd. NE) this Saturday. UpStaged, a group of traveling performers, will be putting on the cabaret, “Love, Lyrics & Laughter.” But please make sure you bring a box of issue. You may shed some tears—from laughing so much.
The hilarious group poses as jaded stars in a nightclub act. And they feel like their simultaneously losing a grip on their love lives and show. The witty humor begins at 7: 30 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person and $25 if you want premiums seating.
Call 348-4500 or register at www.jccabq.org for more information.
The Route 66 Mix
It’s time for Route 66 Summerfest’s main event! From 2 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Nob Hill will be swarming with pedestrians. There will be something for people of all ages. Live music will be blaring from speakers on two different stages. The main stage’s (Central Avenue and Girard Boulevard) first act will begin kicking out the jams at 2:45 p.m. The bands will be taking the stage all day until headliners The Relatives and Red Baraat close out the night.
The east stage (Central Avenue and Washington Street) will host bands all day until headliner, and local hero, Gregg A. Smith, picks up the mic at 8: 40 p.m.
There will be some hardcore fighting on Central Avenue—food fighting! The Cork and Tap Food Truck Rumble will be happening all day. And the Old Route 66 Car Show will be firing up its engines at about 8:30 p.m.
Can’t find a baby sitter for the kiddos? It’s all good. Bring them along. There will be a Kid Zone (Wellesley Drive to Tulane Drive) open from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. showcasing youth oriented performances.
I knew you were sold. And we didn’t even tell you that Albuquerque The Magazine is going to be there! Stop by and say hi. We’ll be handing out water and Otter Pops all day–hey, gotta cool down somehow.
