(Lots of) Favorite Things Friday

Posted by on Apr 23, 2010 in Uncategorized

The weather may be on the “meh” side right now, but that’s not keeping us from T-ing G it’s F. Why? Well, there are about a million fun things going on this weekend, for one thing. Here are just a few that the ATM staff has been talking about this week:

1: Tonight, ABQ Trolley Co. is presenting its Fourth Friday Sunset Tour. It departs from Old Town (Plaza Don Luis) at 6:30 p.m. (and lasts until about 7:45). For $10 you can check out all the ABQ sights in the city’s only open-air trolley!

2: Runway Apparel Fashion Show: tomorrow (4/24), 10 a.m.–7 p.m., Miss New Mexico, Nicole Miner, hosts a day of fashion wtih hourly prize drawings and a fashion show to promote education and awareness benefiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Check it out at Runway Apparel (5901-D Wyoming Blvd. NE). I mean, really: is there anything more stylish than supporting a good cause?

3: Downtown Growers’ Market: 8 a.m. to noon every Saturday, enjoy some of the area’s freshest local produce, gourmet cheese, pasta, tamales, fry bread, baked goods, and tons of other appetite-whetting goodies at Robinson Park (Central Avenue and Eighth Street).

4: Gathering of Nations Powwow: You definitely don’t want to miss out on North America’s biggest powwow. Traditional dances, entertainment and music, Native American cuisine… the Powwow has it all. It’s today and tomorrow at The Pit.

And we would be totally remiss if we didn’t mention that our own staff photographer, Don James, will be signing copies of his new book, One Nation, One Year, at the powwow. He spent a year in the Navajo Nation, documenting the experience with his camera. It’s the coolest. (Ooh, and please vote for it in Pepsi’s Refresh Everything—if it’s in the top ten vote-getters, the project gets $5K grant to be used in helping promote understanding of the Navajo Nation!)

5: Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk: Take a hike—for a good cause! On Sunday, 4/25, walk with hundreds of others from Cottonwood Mall to support breast cancer research.

6: Enchantment Pet Resort and Spa: A SPECIAL offer just for you ATM readers who love pooches! This weekend, purchase a bag of any chicken-flavored dry dog food (Wellness, Taste of the Wild, Innova, California Natural, and Flint River Ranch brands, 15 pounds or larger) and get a rubber chicken squeak toy for $1 (they’re usually $8.99). Partake of the goodies at 580 Quantum Rd NE, Rio Rancho, 891-4100.

7: And for sure check out the Galileo: Messenger from the Stars event at Explora on 4/24, 1–3:30 p.m.

So what are you doing this weekend?
