Hold the 📞 ! This week Jeremy Burge, member of Unicode Emoji Subcommittee and founder of Emojipedia announced, on his blog, the 9.0 version of Unicode which includes 72 new emojis. According to the 2015 Emoji Report developed by the Emogi Consumer Science Team—a technology firm that uses emojis to increase online engagement between publishers and users—emojis are used by 92 percent of the online population.  The latest version of emojis will including the face palmfor when that out of town friend asks how you speak such good English being from New Mexico—and the selfie , because…well, we’re not really sure why.

Burge says that the sample images in his article are designed in the “Apple style” of emoji to give an idea of how these may look when Apple releases their next emoji update, but with World Emoji Day coming up on July 17,  Burge says, “We will have to wait and see which major vendor will take the title for first public rollout of these new emojis.” Samples of the other 70 new emojis can be found on Burge’s blog Emojipedia
