Get Fat

Posted by on Jan 22, 2016 in Uncategorized

Hear us out—we’re not telling you to gorge yourself on every fried, salty state fair food imitation out there (although we’re obsessed with the new cinnamon bun Oreos). We’re talking about healthy fats.

A study released on Wednesday by the Journal of the American Heart Association, suggests eating healthier fats may lead to a million fewer deaths from heart disease. Fats like saturated and trans should be reduced, while mono- and polyunsaturated fat intake should be increased. These healthy fats lower bad cholesterol and have also been linked to a lower risk of stroke.

The best ways to include these in your diet are through swapping that vegetable or canola oil in your pantry for avocado, corn, or sunflower oils. Also be sure to increase the amount of salmon, herring, mackerel, and trout you eat. Beware of too much dairy and meat, as they contain saturated fats, and baked, processed, and fried foods that contain trans fats.

In case you need more tips, we’ve included a healthy pick in this week’s Favorite Things. It’s just one of the great events happening this weekend.

Vertigo“I look up, I look down, I look up…”

Seeing classic movies on the big screen is immersive and fun. It’s a great to get the opportunity to reconnect with old favorites, while perhaps learning something new about those tried and true classics. We recommend trying to catch the iconic classic, Casablanca on the big screen—there’s nothing quite like it. Until then, watch Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo live at the Kimo Theater. This classic with James Stewart and Kim Novak will show tonight from 6-8 p.m. and 8:30-10:30 p.m. Get there 30 minutes early to get the best seats. Tickets are $6-$8 and available here.
