October is National Pit Bull Awareness Month, which is meant to educate and inform the public on the oft misunderstood breed. Pit Bulls are one of the most popular dogs in our city, despite the stigma associated with them.
Saturday is National Pit Bull Awareness Day, during which you can catch many activities and fun on this day devoted to pitties. Two free classes on enriching your pit’s life will be offered at the Animal Welfare Department at 10:30 and 11:45 a.m.
Join Animal Humane for the Seventh Annual Pittie Parade at ABQ Uptown from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.. This free event will feature pups in costumes along with contests, adoptions, and trainers on hand from 505 Pit Crew. All dogs are welcome, pit bulls or otherwise.
Join Routes Bicycle Rentals & Tours tomorrow from 12–3 p.m. for a bike tour along the Rio Grande past local farms, restaurants, and the Bosque del Apache Nature Preserve, ending at Casa Rondeña Winery. A grounds tour and wine tasting for two will be included in the price, which is $50 with a bike rental, or $45 if you have your own bike. Tickets can be purchased here for this 21 and over event covering 12-miles round trip beginning at the Routes Bicycle Rentals & Tours, 404 San Felipe St. NW.
This particular tour is a fundraising event for New Mexico Pets Alive, whose mission is to make New Mexico a no-kill state, ensuring all shelter pets receive forever homes. Fifteen percent of each ticket price will go towards providing shelter animals life saving healthcare options.
Renowned pianist James D’Leon has performed throughout North America and Europe bringing his unique mix to piano fans everywhere, and this weekend he’ll be in Albuquerque. He will perform an eclectic mix of classical, jazz, tango, and contemporary music, with pieces from Frank, Liszt, Piazzolla, Montague, Keith Jarrett and more. This performance will take place tomorrow inside the Old San Ysidro Church from 7:30–9 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here $22, or at the door for $25.
Join Ponderosa Brewing Co. for Albuquerque’s first science of beer event. Talks and activities about the science and history of beer will take place at Explora tomorrow evening from 6:30–10 p.m. The event includes beer tasting, live music, and a cash bar. Tickets can be purchased here for this 21-and-over event for just $10, or $8 for Explora members.
