We know you [Albuquerque The Magazine readers] are always cool. But the weather is leaning that way now, too. It’s the first September weekend of the year and there’s really no excuse for you not to hit the town this weekend.
Put down the remote control. Close your laptop, after reading this, of course. Peel your body off your couch. Pick up a No. 2 pencil and a calendar and write some of these things down.
You think you love pizza? Prove it.
Tomorrow, Sept. 5, is Pizza 9‘s 7th Annual Pizza Eating Contest at Pizza 9’s Gibson Boulevard location and the event is exactly what it sounds like. Contestants will try to eat as many pizza slices in 10 minutes as possible. First prize is $1,000, second is $500, and third is $250.
The entry fee is $15 if you pay today, tomorrow it’ll be $25. Call 366-6463 or visit the Gibson Pizza 9 location to register.
Bring the whole family as there will be activities for the kiddos and fest admission is free. The party will begin at noon and the contest will be at 2 p.m.
When news hit that the Bernalillo Wine Festival was leaving Bernalillo, the winos whined. That was quelled when news of the New Mexico Wine & Jazz Festival at Isleta Resort & Casino broke. That’s right, the ABQ area still has itself a Labor Day weekend wine festival.
The three-day fest runs from tomorrow, Sept. 5, through Monday, Sept. 7 and lasts from noon to 6 p.m. each day. Jazz musicians will fill the air with blue notes, food will fill stomachs, and wine vendors will fill wine glasses.
Admission is $25–$40.
If you had your heart set on going to some sort of booze festival in Bernalillo this weekend, the first-ever Mountain West Brew Fest has your back.
Tomorrow, Sept. 5, and Sunday, Sept. 6, from noon to 6 p.m. both days, the hop-head fiesta will invade Bernalillo’s Loretto Park. Over 50 craft breweries from New Mexico and the Mountain West Region will be serving their finest suds. There will be food trucks, live music, and a farmers’ market.
General admission tickets to this 21-and-over event are $20, which lets you sample the beers and gets you a commemorative glass. Drop $10 more and gain entrance to the Premium Beer Tent.
