A Bit About Germs

Good news for germophobes everywhere.

According to a recent study published in the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, plain old soap works just as well as antibacterial soap for clean hands. Since people wash their hands for a matter of seconds, the active antibacterial triclosan does not have enough time to work as a potent antibacterial. It works best when people are exposed to it for hours at a time, so a few seconds isn’t really doing much as far as killing germs.

Good to know since you may be heading out to the New Mexico State Fair this weekend. And once you’re full of fried Oreos, you can head out to some of these other ABQ events.

Say it isn’t so–it’s the last weekend of the New Mexico State Fair. This will be the last opportunity to get your fill of fair foods, from the likes of doughnut and funnel cake burgers to deep fried bacon and coffee.

We can’t wait to see what creations come out next year. Some notables this year were the deep fried green chile bacon cheese curds, Cowboy Nut Shoppe’s green chile pecans and almonds, and chocolate raspberry chipotle doughnuts at Daisy Mini Donuts.

A great way to support your local craftsman, there will be a class offering how to spot authentic Native American jewelry. Perfect for last minute fair shopping, learn basic identification skills and the right questions to ask.

This is a free event, taking place at Shumakolowa Native Arts inside the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center tomorrow, Sept. 19, at noon.

Cocktails, a five-course dinner, a late-night moon dance, and collector automobiles are some highlights from the moonlight formal, Concours du Soleil Gala’s “Driving to the Future.”

Proceeds of the event go to programs that inspire youth entrepreneurship. Tickets are available here for $250 per person, and reserved tables of 10 and 12 are also available.

What are you doing this weekend?
